As noted on the Mississippi Secretary of State’s website, “military service is one of the greatest acts of patriotism in the United States and we all owe a huge debt of gratitude and respect to those of you who defend our liberty.” We couldn’t agree more.
The State of Mississippi and its Secretary of State’s Office has a long standing commitment to the military and those men and women who selflessly serve to protect our country and freedoms around the world.
Mississippi was one of the first states in the nation to provide electronic mail transmission of voter registration and absentee balloting materials to military voters. More recently, it has continued to explore online solutions to make absentee voting as possible for military members and their eligible dependents. Mississippi’s use of BALLOTsafe™ technology allows military members to review and retrieve an absentee ballot regardless of their location in the world.
Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann has made military voters and their families one of the top commitments of his administration. To that end, Secretary Hosemann and his office works closely with National Guard commanders and active duty bases to provide military voter registration opportunities throughout the state. Secretary Hosemann also works with local election officials to make sure that absentee military ballots are mailed on time and are counted when they are returned.
As our military members continue their efforts to protect our great nation, they should know that Mississippi and its election officials are fighting hard to protect their rights back home. Mississippi’s tremendous efforts have made it one of our All-Star states.
